2012 Rose Koury Scholarship

Deadline: April 20, 2012 at 11:59 PM EDT - CLOSED

Description

The Rose Koury Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding Northern Virginia high school seniors who plan to enter the field of early childhood or elementary education. The scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate strength of character and dedication to improving the lives of others through a career in education. The scholarship will make a significant contribution to the education of a student who might otherwise have difficulty paying for college.

This scholarship will provide $5,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate education for a total award of $20,000. Renewal depends on the student's academic good standing, continued full time enrollment at an accredited college or university and on the student's enrollment in a major course of study in early childhood or elementary education.

The scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia.

Requirements

The scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Northern Virginia public and private high schools (defined as the areas of Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties.) Applicants must be legal residents of Northern Virginia.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents.

The selection committee will consider the following:
- Academic excellence (must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5).
- Financial need.
- Dedication to the field of education.
- Community service and leadership as demonstrated by extracurricular activities.
