Scholarship Plus 2013-2014

Deadline: February 17, 2014 at 11:59 PM EST - CLOSED

Scholarship Plus is a college scholarship program founded in 2010 to provide financial assistance and strong undergraduate support for outstanding but economically challenged New York City high school graduates in the city's five boroughs.

The students we support are not just bright, but have already shown grit and determination in their young lives, distinguishing themselves academically despite both economic and personal obstacles. They are at or near the top of their classes, showing great promise though often graduating from academically weak city schools.

Scholarship Plus provides up to $7,500 a year as well as a paid internship. In the belief that financial aid alone is not enough to assure safe passage through college, even for the best of students, the program provides more than money. The "Plus" includes paid internships the summer after high school and, from that time on, academic counseling, summer job support, internships and career advice, mentoring of various sorts and personal guidance when needed.

Applicants must be current high school seniors who attend public, parochial or private schools in New York City and who have demonstrated:
Outstanding academic achievement (top 10% or equivalent of the high school graduating class).

* Significant financial need.

* Success in overcoming adversity.

* A commitment to community service.

* Preference will be given to students whose parents have not graduated from
American four-year colleges or universities.

* Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
